Super Starters – Creating my own character

Sunday, 11/01/2026, 15:01 (GMT)

Super Starters – Day 6 marked the joyful return of our little learners after a long break and also opened Stage 2 with abundant energy, laughter, and creativity.

The day began with a familiar Circle Time, where students checked in with their emotions, shared the excitement of being back in class, and eagerly explored well-known fairy tale characters. Using prompt objects such as a crown, an apple, or a pair of shoes, each child came up with at least two ideas for a character they wanted to create (name and personality), laying the foundation for the new project “Our Puppet Theatre”.

In English class, students were introduced to and practiced simple descriptive vocabulary such as big, small, happy, sad, good, and bad through the game “Guess who?”. They confidently observed, guessed, and practiced speaking using sentence patterns like “My puppet is…” and “He/She is…”, gradually expressing themselves in English in a natural way.

The classroom atmosphere became even more lively during Physical Education as students drew a character at random and used body language to act out how that character walks and behaves for their classmates to guess. This activity helped children release energy, sharpen observation skills, and express emotions through movement.

The highlight of the day was the STEM session. Students sketched their character ideas, then selected and combined recycled materials such as paper, fabric scraps, and buttons to begin creating their first puppets. Through guiding questions from teachers, students were encouraged to think creatively and solve problems to make their characters unique and lively.

At the end of the lesson, during the “Character debut” activity, each student confidently introduced the name and one standout feature of their puppet.

Homelink – “Treasure hunt”: Families are invited to search for recycled materials at home (old buttons, yarn, fabric scraps, etc.) to bring to class in the next lesson, accompanying children on their journey to complete their characters.

A gentle yet meaningful learning day, helping students not only ease back into familiar routines but also step into Stage 2 with confidence, creativity, and renewed excitement.
