Admissions Policy

I.  ADMISSIONS POLICY:

  • Priority enrollment:
    • (1) Students who are biological children, paternal/maternal grandchildren of owners of condos/villas in Vinhomes urban areas and are living in such condos/villas will be entitled to priority enrollment at the Vinschool campuses in such urban areas in case of vacancy;
    • (2) Students who are children of Leaders, teachers and staff members working in the Vinschool system or Vingroup subsidiaries (if not belonging to the first priority group mentioned above) will be entitled to priority enrollment at Vinschool campuses with vacancies;
    • (3) Vinschool students who meet transition requirements (if not belonging to the first priority group mentioned above) will be enrolled at appropriate campuses based on the available slots;
    • (4) Others will be enrolled depending on the available slots.
  • Requirements for Vinschool alumni:
    • Students enrolled at Vinschool campuses during the 2020-2021 school year will be eligible to attend the next grade within the same educational stage for the 2021-2022 school year, provided that they complete their current curriculum and their parents fulfill all financial obligations in accordance with the Financial regulations for both the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 school years;
    • Students who transition to the next educational stage within the Vinschool system will be entitled  to priority enrollment, including: Alvin students to Grade 1, Grade 5 students to Grade 6, and Grade 9 students to Grade 10, according to the Student Transition policy;
    • Students who wish to study at another campus will have their request answered based on the aforementioned priority enrollment principles and the availability of slots and ESL classes matching their levels.
  • Application, screening, and Cambridge program entrance exam fees:
    • For students who make a first-time or re-enrollment application:
      • Kindergarten: application and screening fees of VND1,500,000
      • Primary, Secondary and High schools: application and screening fees of VND2,000,000
    • For students who transition from Kindergarten to Primary school:
      • Standard program: application fee of VND300,000
      • Advanced (Cambridge) program: application and entrance exam fees of VND700,000
    • For students who wish to switch from Standard to Advanced (Cambridge) program at Primary, Secondary and High schools:
      • Entrance exam fee of VND700,000
    • Application, screening, and Cambridge program entrance exam fees are non-refundable and non-transferable under any circumstances.

II. ENROLLMENT AGES:

In the 2021-2022 school year, students in the following age groups will be eligible to enroll at Vinschool:

  • Kindergarten: children born between 2016 and 2019, and between January and June 2020 (at selected campuses);
  • Primary school: students born between 2011 and 2015;
  • Secondary school: students born between 2007 and 2010;
  • High school: students born between 2004 and 2006.

In case a student’s age does not appropriately match the grade or educational stage, Vinschool reserves the right to accept or reject his/her application according to the regulations applicable to Kindergartens and to Primary, Secondary and High schools.

III. CLASS SIZES

Vinschool sets class size limits as follows:

  • Kindergarten: capped at 20-30 students per class, depending on the age group and program;
  • Primary, Secondary and High schools: capped at 25 students per Advanced class and 30 students per Standard class.

In special cases, the regular class size may have a standard deviation of 02 but will not fall below the national standards in order to ensure the best possible conditions for teaching and learning.

IV. ENROLLMENT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. First-time applicants:

  • Kindergarten applicants must not have infectious diseases, severe congenital anomalies, or special educational needs (since our current care services and facilities fail to meet their special needs).
  • Primary school applicants must have academic performance and conduct of at least Pass.
  • Secondary school applicants must have completed the Primary curriculum and have Very Good conduct and academic performance of at least Good throughout their Secondary years and in the first term (for those who apply for Term 2).
  • High school applicants must have graduated from Secondary school and have Very Good conduct and academic performance of at least Good throughout their Secondary and High school years and in the first term (for those who apply for Term 2).
  • Students who are foreigners living in Vietnam or Vietnamese people living overseas will be considered for enrollment on a case-by-case basis with respect to the regulations prescribed by the Departments of Education & Training in the cities or provinces where Vinschool campuses are located.

2. Students formerly enrolled at Vinschool:

  • Their applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

VI. SCREENING:

  • All first-time applicants must pass the screening organized by Vinschool. Each student has only one chance per term to succeed.
  • Students who are attending Standard classes at Vinschool Primary, Secondary and High schools must pass the ESL entrance test in order to switch to the Advanced (Cambridge) program. Students in Grade 10 or higher who wish to switch to the Advanced program must pass the Math and Sciences tests in English in addition to the ESL entrance test. Each student has only one chance per term to succeed.
  • For Kindergarten: the Kindergarten screening aims to record children’s characteristics and abilities for their future homeroom teachers’ information so that appropriate care and education can be provided for their development. Vinschool refuses to accept students who have infectious diseases, severe congenital anomalies or special educational needs as our current care services and facilities fail to meet their special needs. The Kindergarten screening at Vinschool takes the form of an interview, but in fact it is a teacher-student conversation which employs words, gestures and body language. During the conversation, teachers may use appropriate teaching tools, toys and games to engage children and create scenarios to observe their reactions, thereby identifying their skills. Children need to demonstrate basic knowledge as well as fundamental cognitive and motor skills (holding, grasping, stacking, walking, running, jumping, etc.) expected of their age.
  • For Primary, Secondary and High schools: students will have their learning evaluated in the following subjects:
    • Standard program: Math, Vietnamese Language/Literature, ESL, Logical thinking;
    • Advanced program: Math, Vietnamese Language/Literature, ESL, Logical thinking. Students who enter Grade 10 or higher must also take Math and Sciences tests in English (these students are exempt from taking the Math test in Vietnamese). Those who apply for lower grades may take the Math test either in English or Vietnamese;
    • Students will be directly interviewed by teachers;
    • Students who wish to attend Grade 10 at Vinschool from the beginning of the school year can choose between the following 2 options:
      • Submitting their scores on the 10th grade entrance exam organized by the local Department of Education and Training, with the passing conditions as follows:
        • For students applying for Grade 10 at high schools for the gifted: their combined score of 3 subjects (x 1) must be 18 or higher, with no grade lower than 5.
        • For students applying for Grade 10 at other public high schools:
          • Students in Hanoi must achieve a combined score of at least 45 across 4 subjects, with no grade lower than 6.
          • Students in Ho Chi Minh City or Hai Phong must achieve a combined score of at least 37.5 across 3 subjects, with no grade lower than 6.
          • Students in other cities or provinces must achieve a combined score of at least 15 on Math and Literature tests (x 1), with no grade lower than 6.
        • Taking Vinschool tests as instructed above.
  • The screenings for the first grades of each educational stage are in line with the regulations prescribed by Departments of Education & Training.

VIII. ENROLLMENT APPLICATION SCHEDULES:

  • For Kindergarten: Vinschool accepts enrollment applications from January until there are no available slots left.
  • For Primary, Secondary and High schools: 02 application periods:
    • Application for the whole school year: from January to August, official enrollment in August.
    • Application for Term 2: from November to December, official enrollment in January.

  • Requirements for Vinschool alumni: 
  1. Students enrolled at Vinschool Primary, Secondary and High schools during the 2019-2020 school year will be eligible to attend the next grade within the same education stage for the 2020-2021 school year, provided students complete their current curriculum. Also, parents fulfill tuition duties for students in accordance with the financial regulations for both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 school years; 
  2. Students who transition >> move to the next education stage within the Vinschool system will be given priority enrollment, including Alvin students to Grade 1, Grade 5 students to Grade 6, and Grade 9 students to Grade 10 according to the Student Transition Policy; 
  3. Students who wish to study at another campus will have their request answered >> response based on the aforementioned priority enrollment principles and the availability of slots and ESL classes matching their level. 
  •  Application, intake screening and transition fees:

  1. Kindergarten: children born between 2015 and 2018, and between January and June 2019 (at selected campuses);  
  2. Primary school: students born between 2010 and 2014;  
  3. Secondary school: students born between 2006 and 2009;  
  4. High school: students born between 2003 and 2005.  
  • When the students’ age does not appropriately match the grade or education stage, the school reserves the right to review and accept students pursuant to regulations applicable to kindergartens, primary schools and inter-level schools. 

 III. CLASS SIZES: 

Vinschool has specific class sizes for its classes as follows: 

  • Kindergarten: capped at 20-30 students per class, depending on the age agroup and program. 
  • Primary, Secondary and High school: capped at 25 students per Advanced class and 30 students per Standard class. 

In special cases, standard class size may vary with a 5% deviation rate, but will not fall below the national standard for average area/student in terms of school design while ensuring the best possible conditions for learning and teaching.  

 IV. ENROLLMENT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

1. New students’ enrollment in Vinschool education network: 

  • Kindergarten applications: students do not have infectious diseases, dangerous congenital anomalies, or special education needs (as the current school facilities do not meet students’ special education needs). 
  • Primary school applications: students’ academic performance of at least Pass; and civics (skills, ethics) of at least Pass.  
  • Secondary school applications: students must have completed the primary school curriculum; has civics assessment of Very Good and academic performance of at least Good during the most recent school year and semester (for student applications for the 2nd semester).  
  • High school applications: students must have graduated from secondary school; has civics assessment of Very Good and academic performance of at least Good during most recent school year and semester (for student applications for the 2nd semester). 
  • Students who are not registered in household booklets in cities or provinces where the Vinschool campuses they apply to are located, students who are foreigners living in Vietnam, or are Vietnamese living overseas will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, pursuant to the regulations prescribed by the Departments of Education and Training of such cities or provinces.

VI. INTAKE REQUIREMENTS: 

  • All new students applying to Vinschool must past a screening assessment process organized by the school. Each student may only be screened once per semester. 
  • Students who are attending Vinschool Standard classes at Primary, Secondary and High schools must pass the ESL test in order to switch to Advanced program (Cambridge). Students in Grade 10 or higher grades who wish to switch to Advanced program must pass the Mathematics and Science tests in English in addition to the ESL test. Each student may only be screened once per semester. 
  • For Kindergarten: intake screening for kindergarten aims to record children’s characteristics and abilities, which homeroom teachers may take note of upon intake of a new class, and provide the appropriate care – teaching necessary for a child’s development. The screening is also an opportunity to identify from an early age those children with special needs, or those who require special education provided by special education facilities. Parents can also receive counseling to provide joint care and teaching efforts. Our facilities will not accept children who are carriers of infectious diseases, or suffers from dangerous congenital anomalies as per state regulations related to kindergartens. Vinschool kindergarten intake screening is conducted via interview format, but is really a conversation between teachers and students through words, gestures and body language. During the conversation with the family, teachers may include the use of appropriate teaching tools, toys or games to attract children’s attention, create scenarios to observe prospective students’ reaction, and take note of their skills. The contents of the conversation will be simple cognitive assessments of skills and knowledge appropriate to the age group, including simple motor functions (holding, grasping, stacking, walking, running, jumping, etc.) 
  • For Primary, Secondary and High school: students will have their academic performance assessed in the following subjects: 
  1. Vinschool Standard program: Mathematics, Vietnamese Language/Literature, ESL, Logical thinking; 
  2. Vinschool Advanced program: Mathematics, Vietnamese Language/Literature, ESL, Logical thinking. Students who enter Grade 10 or higher grades must take Mathematics and Science tests in English; 
  3. Students will be directly interviewed by teachers; 
  • Intake enrollment for the first grades of each education stage (grades 1, 6) are pursuant to regulations provided by the Department of Education and Training.
