Perspectives from School Mental Health Initiatives
Alongside physical health, mental health plays an equally crucial role in the holistic development of children. When children feel happy, safe, and supported, they exhibit a positive mood and better learning abilities, which in turn help them build healthy relationships and resilience when facing challenges.
This February, Vinsers actively participated, expressing their perspectives and ideas in the School Mental Health Wellbeing Initiatives program, themed “Wellbeing for Better Learning: Happiness for Better Learning.” After three months of launching, the program received impressive numbers: 240 ideas from Metropolis Elementary and 95 from Metropolis Middle School. These figures demonstrate the deep concern the students have for mental health.
Even more exciting is that many of these initiatives have been approved and are now being implemented, spreading positivity and joy throughout the community.. We would like to share a few exemplary examples:
- “Foot soaking and massaging for grandparents and parents”: An initiative from the elementary students that deeply moved and surprised their elders.
- “Writing cards for parents”: A sweet token of appreciation from the hearts of the children.
- “Practicing breathing and meditation for emotional regulation”: Spending 3-5 minutes in the Calm Corner to deeply breathe, recharge, and better manage emotions.
- “Drawing paintings for teachers”: A meaningful gift, expressing gratitude to the dedicated “helmsmen.”
- “Drawing self-portraits”: Learning to appreciate and love even the imperfect aspects of oneself, recognizing everyone’s unique beauty.
- “Jar of Motivation”: Writing motivational messages, folding them into stars, and placing them in a glass jar to encourage oneself.
These initiatives not only help the children enhance their awareness of mental health but also encourage them to act, spreading positive values to the community.
