Recently, grade 3 students from Vinschool Smart City participated in an experiential learning trip at Bat Trang Ceramic Museum. The activity was designed to help students connect classroom knowledge with traditional cultural values, thereby expanding their understanding, nurturing a love for learning, and fostering appreciation for national heritage.

Display space of Bat Trang Ceramics Past and Present

From the very first steps of discovery, the children learned about the Bat Trang ceramic craft space – a place that preserves the essence of 19 ceramic-making lineages over more than seven centuries. Through each artifact and story, the students understood that behind every bowl or vase is not just a handicraft product but the crystallization of history, culture, and the persistent labor of generations of artisans throughout hundreds of years in a traditional craft village.

Light sculpture exhibition “Lighting the Chronicles”

In the exhibition space, historical stories became more relatable, vivid, and inspiring through unique light sculpture art. The works utilize driftwood to create images of the Hung Kings, 14 national heroes, and historical milestones through shadow effects. Through this experience, knowledge of light and shadow from Science subjects was visually recreated, while understanding of historical figures and events in Vietnamese Studies was more deeply ingrained. Students did not just “learn to know” but also “learn to understand” and “learn to feel.”

Ceramic making and painting experience

During the practical activity, students transformed into “young artisans” as they manually shaped and decorated their own ceramic products. After molding the clay, Vinsers continued to unleash their creativity in a recycled ceramic painting workshop, turning familiar items into unique, whimsical works with a strong personal touch.

This was also when knowledge from various subjects was applied naturally and enthusiastically: Fine Arts helped them choose colors, patterns, and layouts; Mathematics supported Vinsers in recognizing shapes, proportions, and arrangements; Science helped them understand the properties of materials and the process of creating ceramic products. Consequently, learning no longer stopped at textbooks but became a vivid real-life experience.

The trip to the Bat Trang Ceramic Museum not only provided grade 3 students with exciting moments of discovery but also offered an opportunity to see the close connection between classroom knowledge and the surrounding life. Through observation, experience, and practice, Vinsers reinforced their knowledge, developed aesthetic thinking and creativity, and grew to love the traditional cultural values of the nation. This is the beautiful significance of experiential learning activities at Vinschool.
