Scientific Exploration Activity: “The Mystery of the Moon” – Discovering the Universe with Vinsers

Tuesday, 19/11/2024, 13:11 (GMT)

From November 11 to 13, 2024, Vinschool Smart City Primary School hosted a special scientific experience titled “The Mystery of the Moon” for students, parents, and Vinhomes residents. This rare event allowed Vinsers and the community to admire the beauty of the Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, and Venus through advanced, professional equipment, such as the Celestron NexStar Evolution 9.25 automated telescope and the SkyWatcher EvoStar 72ED refractor telescope. Through this experience, Smart City Vinsers had the opportunity to:

Develop observation and inquiry skills by describing scientific phenomena and ideas. During an engaging session with Dr. Phan Thanh Hien, an astrophysics lecturer from the Vietnam-France University, young “scientists” enthusiastically posed intriguing questions, such as: “Besides Earth, can humans live on another planet?”, “Why are all planets spherical?”, and “How was the Moon formed?” In his responses, Dr. Phan Thanh Hien also emphasized the importance of protecting Earth – the only planet in the Solar System that sustains life.

Enhance critical thinking and act like scientists by comparing and describing the surface features and sizes of celestial bodies such as the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus based on real observations through telescopes. Students and their parents experienced the thrill of “touching” the Moon with remarkable clarity and proximity. Additionally, participants were captivated by the Dagik globe displaying planets in the Solar System and the “Science Theater,” which offered fascinating knowledge about light and color in the universe, volcanoes on planets, and the rock cycle within the Solar System. These experiences created an unforgettable evening not only for more than 1,000 Vinsers but also for numerous excited parents and residents who eagerly joined.

Following the event, the school received numerous positive comments and feedback from parents. A parent of Bao Chau, a third grader, shared that their family was thrilled to join the activity, arranging for the father and two children to explore the Moon and Solar System together. Nam Anh, a student from Class 3A8 who participated on two evenings, shared: “I was so excited when the school organized this event, so I joined with my younger sister on the first day. To satisfy my curiosity, I came back on the second day and was among the first to observe Saturn. I loved this activity so much.”

Let’s look forward to more exciting events and activities at Vinschool Smart City, where knowledge extends beyond textbooks and comes to life through engaging real-world experiences!
