Welcome the world-famous writer to Vinschool Book Fair 2017
The author of many prestigious Canadian prizes – Don Aker, who has been known to international readers with more than 20 famous teenage books – has been in Vietnam for the first time to participate in a series of activities of exchange, reading inspiration and individual writing with Vinschool students. This is one of the key activities included in 2017 Vinschool Book Fair organized by Vinschool Education System on November 12.
At the invitation of Vinschool, Don Aker flew from Canada to Vietnam to share and exchange with students and their parents in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

At Vinschool Book Fair 2017, Don Aker spent time talking to Vinschool parents about issues related to “Understanding adolescence psychology – Role of parents in guiding children.” He gave reasons why children were reluctant to reading, from which he offered solutions and ways for parents to help their children build reading culture at home.
Vinschool Book Fair 2017 is an annual event of Vinschool Education System. This year’s program was held on November 12, 2017 with the theme of “21st-Century Vinsers – Integrate through each page”. This is a highlight of activity series on Reading Culture development of Vinschool students that has been built and developed throughout the academic year.
Exciting and meaningful activities at Vinschool Book Fair 2017 attracted thousands of families whose children were among the age from kindergarten to high school. Vinschool Book Fair truly became a place for parents and students to develop a reading culture and express love for books.
Parents and students attending the program were accessible to more than 15,000 quality books of all genres from prestigious publishers. In addition, the program offered a variety of activities, organized a playground for students as well as useful workshops for parents to foster and develop reading culture for their children.
There was an exhibition of creative and impressive book covers made by students. By making covers of books and stories that they love, illustrating a story or depicting a character in a particular book, students had a chance to express their thoughts and desires in this playground.
The creativity of students was clearly marked on the display of Reading Journal designed by students in Vietnamese and English under unique forms, from handmade notebooks, mind maps, paintings, character drawings, comic books to commentaries. During the school year, after making plans and setting goals for their book reading each month, students then wrote their feelings about the book in their Reading Journal.
Vinschool students were also proactively involved in donating books to the project of “Loving Book Cabinet”, selling old books to raise money in order to build schools for poor children. These activities demonstrated students’ interest and responsibility for the community – values emphasized by the school in educational programs.
