In March 2019, the Council of International Schools (CIS) officially awarded 3 of Vinschool locations membership status. This is an important milestone in Vinschool’s development.

CIS – a leader in the field of school evaluation and accreditation worldwide

The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a leader in the field of school evaluation and accreditation worldwide, with rigorous international criteria and standards.

The CIS community includes 734 schools and 622 colleges/universities, representing 116 countries all over the world. Out of 20,000 educational institutions in Vietnam, only 17 campuses  have been recognized as CIS members – 3 of those 17 are now Vinschool campuses.

CIS members all share the ideals to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens and commit to high quality international education.

CIS has now awarded 3 Vinschool locations (6 campuses) membership, including:

  • Vinschool Times City (Primary, Middle & High School)
  • Vinschool The Harmony (Primary, Middle & High School)
  • Vinschool Central Park (Primary, Middle & High School)

To be recognized as a CIS member, Vinschool must meet 20 core standards in 8 domains:

  • School purpose and direction
  • Governance, leadership and ownership
  • The Curriculum
  • Teaching and Assessing for Learning
  • Student Learning & Well-being
  • Staffing
  • Premises & Physical Accomondation
  • Community & Home Partnerships

Upon being awarded membership status, schools must go through a rigorous accreditation process that satisfies all CIS standards in all 8 domains before being fully accredited.

In the near future, Vinschool has set the goal for the other campuses to become CIS members and 6 campuses above to be accredited by CIS.

Vinschool’s journey to be a CIS member

Following the decision to reform in September 2017, Vinschool set its goal to follow CIS’s standards and to be granted CIS International Accreditation.

In December 2017, the school welcomed a CIS delegation at Times City campus for the first time, in order to evaluate Vinschool to become a CIS member. Upon comprehensive examination of our strategic directions and policies; staffing, teaching practices and learning through observing classes, this process involved meeting with students, parents, teachers and staff, CIS provided guidelines and action points that Vinschool needed to improve according to CIS’s core standards.

Since this first visit, Vinschool’s Management Board has attentively heeded CIS’s recommendations, and established an action plan to improve the areas highlighted by CIS.

The second visit by CIS representatives in March 2019 saw much positive praise on Vinschool for its vast improvements. In its reports, CIS representatives recognized that Vinschool was truly serious about improving: teaching and learning quality; having support programs for special needs of students; discipline, routines and safety. Especially, rostering and developing global citizens through Vinschool’s Culminating Projects and Global Perspectives programs are highly praised by CIS.

Being a CIS member is the first step towards Vinschool’s journey to improve itself according to CIS’s rigorous standards. The near future will see many big changes in not only the 6 CIS member schools, but also within the entire system.
