Bridging the gap in education with the Kien tao scholarship program – Vinschool

Friday, 17/07/2020, 11:07 (GMT+7)

As a not-for-profit education system, for more than 7 years now, Vinschool has always striven for the mission of nurturing talents. In addition to investing resources in creating the best learning environment for students, Vinschool has successfully fulfilled its social responsibility by conducting a variety of charity activities for the benefit of the community.

In the quest to realize its mission, Vinschool has received tremendous support from Vingroup and benefited much from the dedication and determination of all teachers and staff as well as the companionship of parents, students and community organizations.

To bridge the gap in education along with finding and fostering talents, in 2020, Vinschool has decided to launch a charity project called the Kien tao (Shaping the Future) scholarship program, funded by Vingroup, with a total value of VND10 billion. 100 scholarships in total will be granted in the first phase (2020-2022), and at least half of them will be awarded in the 2020-2021 school year, to disadvantaged, yet eager-to-learn and strong-willed students who are going to enter grade 8, 9 or 10.

Unlike regular scholarship programs, the Kien tao scholarship program gives students easy access to advanced education programs and teaching methods, thereby helping them build a solid knowledge base for future success. A panel of judges will choose scholarship winners based on applicants’ academic acheivements, reflective essays, reference letters, and results of their own interviews and their parents’ interviews. Each scholarship winner will be given a monthly stipend to cover their living expenses and also equipped with an Internet-connected computer to gain access to Vinschool’s high-quality teaching and education programs via online learning. In particular, the scholarship eligibility starts from the 2020-2021 school year and lasts until students finish high school. Vinschool teachers and students will give advice and guidance to scholarship winners throughout their learning process, starting with sketching an individual development plan with specific learning and career goals for each. Accordingly, teachers will act as facilitators, enabling the students to bring their development plan to life.

The Kien tao scholarship program will not only bridge the gap in education between students in disadvantaged rural areas and urban areas by giving the former more opportunities to succeed but also inspire them to work hard to expand their knowledge, pursue their dreams, and overcome all difficulties in life for a better future.

As Jack Ma said, the greatest luck in life is not to find money that someone else dropped nor to win the lottery but to have someone who can lead you to a higher platform. We believe that the gifted students from difficult backgrounds, if discovered, supported and guided, will become true talents who can contribute to the development of Vietnam (or of their nation) and create values for their community.
