The first step to enrollment in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth begins with our Talent Search. Through above grade-level testing, CTY will help students discover whether our programs and services are right for them – and find the appropriate level of challenge to inspire their advanced learner.

Qualified students are classified into 2 groups: (1) CTY level: test scores that reflect ability approximately two grade levels above the current enrolled grade and (2) Advanced CTY level: test scores that reflect ability approximately four grade levels above the current enrolled grade.

The test include 2 assessments, one of students’ verbal skills and one of their math capabilities. According to CTY’s results, for the Math assessment, all 15 Vinschoolers scored high and is placed at CTY level. Among them, Nguyen Tue Minh and Trinh Minh Quan are 9th graders who respectively scored in the top 3% and 4% of test takers. For the verbal assessment, Vu Chi Mai (also a 9th grader) scored an Advanced CTY level and is in the top 3% of test takers.

These results have opened up great opportunities for these students to gain access to world class training programs from this very prestigious education institution.

In the near future, these students will be able to take part in advanced online programs from CTY suited to their individual educational acuity. Specifically: AP Computer Science, AP World History, Honors Biology/Physics, Visual Storytelling, STEM Research Writing, Java programming,… The GATE Center will cover 100% of the costs for students to take part in these online courses.
