How Do Alvin Students Explore Geometry Through a Math Lesson?

Tuesday, 03/12/2024, 16:12 (GMT)

At the Alvin class level, the Cambridge Math program not only emphasizes numbers, calculations, comparisons, and measurements but also introduces students to shapes.

In Chapter 4, after learning the names and characteristics of 3D shapes: sphere, cube, and cylinder, the students participate in three learning stations: “Which Shape Disappeared?”, “Crafty Hands,” and “Who’s the Best?” to reinforce the concepts they have studied.

Station 1: “Which Shape Disappeared?”

At this station, students and the teacher name the 3D shapes: sphere, cube, and cylinder. Working in pairs, they review and record the characteristics of these shapes (number of faces, edges, curved surfaces, and whether the shape can roll) on a discussion sheet. Each pair then presents their results to the class.

Station 2: “Crafty Hands”

Using materials such as clay, bamboo sticks, counting rods, and circles, students demonstrate their dexterity by constructing the shapes they’ve learned. This hands-on activity helps them better retain the characteristics of 3D shapes.

Station 3: “Who is the best?”

Students apply their knowledge of 3D shapes: sphere, cube, and cylinder to complete a worksheet. This activity reinforces their understanding andhelps them solidify their mental images of the 3D shapes

Each station provides important learning experiences, equipping students with essential mathematical knowledge and skills, paving the way for a smooth transition to Grade 1.
