Responsive Parenting – Season 2, Stage 2 – Seminar “Parental Resilience”: Self-Resilience As The Essential Capacity Enabling Parents To Transform Pressure Into Inner Strength While Accompanying Their Children
On the morning of January 18, more than 300 parents attended the seminar “Parental Resilience,” co-organized by Vinschool and Vinmec International General Hospital. The event created a space for scientific and practical dialogue on parental resilience—an increasingly vital capacity amid the pressures of modern parenting.
At the seminar, Resilience was framed by experts as a process comprising two core stages: Withstand—navigating emotional storms, and Recover—returning to a state of balance, or even emerging stronger. Clinical psychologist Dr. Nguyễn Thị Diệu Anh highlighted the subtle factors that erode parents’ inner strength, including social comparison, perfectionism, and adverse childhood experiences that may be reactivated during the parenting journey.
From a neuroscience perspective, Dr. Nguyễn Trung Nghĩa emphasized that Resilience is closely linked to neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to adapt and reorganize under stress—demonstrating that it is not an innate trait but a skill that can be cultivated through awareness and intentional practice. To strengthen self-recovery capacity, the seminar introduced practical tools such as Martin Seligman’s 3P model to help parents avoid personalizing setbacks, structured restorative breaks, and the “Dusting Off Identity” ritual, which supports parents in mentally disengaging from work pressures before entering their children’s world.
Beyond expert talks, parents took part in interactive workshops designed to develop emotional regulation, empathic communication, conflict management, and the ability to recognize “blind spots” in parent–child interactions. Through guided practice, parents gradually translated scientific knowledge into practical skills, enhancing both the effectiveness of their parenting and the quality of family relationships.
Sharing her reflections, parent Nguyễn Thị Nguyên Hạnh noted: “The seminar helped me realize that everyone has an emotional ‘container’ with its own limits when facing life’s pressures. The experts’ insights not only showed me how to expand that capacity and strengthen my inner resilience as a parent, but also taught me to slow down and respond with greater empathy and understanding toward my family members.”
