EDURUN – Carrying forward the dream of going to school on the rocky highlands of Tuyen Quang
From the EDURUN 2024 fund, Vinschool will invest in the complete reconstruction of Khai Hoang Kindergarten & Primary School, providing a safe and well-equipped learning environment for more than 100 kindergarten and primary students in Du Gia Commune, Tuyen Quang Province (formerly Ha Giang) - a remote and underserved area with complex mountainous terrain, located 164 km from Ha Giang City.
Khai Hoang School currently operates under Du Tien Kindergarten and Du Tien Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minority Students, serving children from ethnic minority communities. At present, the school has one kindergarten class, one primary class, and two dormitory rooms for teachers, all housed in temporary prefabricated structures built in 2009. Over time and under harsh weather conditions, these facilities have severely deteriorated. The access road to the school stretches more than 12 km from the commune center, is extremely hazardous, and takes over two hours to travel in favorable weather; during the rainy season, access is nearly impossible.
With funding drawn from the EDURUN 2024 fund, contributed collectively by Vinschool parents, students, teachers, staff, and sponsors, Vinschool will completely rebuild Khai Hoang Kindergarten & Primary School. From the original land area of over 400 m², the project has undertaken rock blasting and land leveling to expand the site to nearly 650 m². The project is comprehensively planned, with a total construction area of 356 m², including two kindergarten classrooms, two primary classrooms, separate restrooms for each level, two on-site accommodation rooms for boarding teachers, a kitchen area, and a covered corridor system integrated with play spaces. Supporting facilities include an outdoor playground, approximately 250 m² of internal concrete roads, a 30 m² vegetable garden, and a surrounding gate and fence system, contributing to a safe and child-friendly learning environment.
The future school is designed with inspiration from the rocky highlands, undulating mountain ranges, traditional H’Mong houses, and the distinctive patterns of the Black H’Mong people, harmoniously blending modern and traditional elements. The design utilizes local, eco-friendly materials, ensuring warmth in winter and coolness in summer, well-suited to the highland climate.
Khai Hoang School is the 13th school built with funding from EDURUN over the years, with an estimated total investment of VND 3 billion, drawn from the EDURUN 2024 fund and expected to be completed within the next eight months. The project continues to affirm Vinschool’s long-term commitment to “narrowing the education gap”, delivering safe and solid learning environments to students in disadvantaged areas.
