PSYCHOLOGICAL PREVENTION PROGRAM: ADAPTING TO A NEW ENVIRONMENT

Thursday, 19/09/2024, 11:09 (GMT)

As part of a series of activities aimed at helping students adapt to the new environment at Vinschool Thang Long, the School Psychology Department is organizing workshops to equip first-year students (grades 1 and 6) and new students with adaptive skills for the 2024-2025 school year. This annual activity, held at the beginning of the school year, is designed to promptly listen to students’ concerns and provide appropriate support, helping Vinsers develop a positive connection with their new environment.

Workshop: Befriending Emotions – For 1st Graders

The workshop includes fun activities through games and the use of visual illustrations to help Vinsers easily acquire emotional skills. First graders enthusiastically participated in activities such as:

  • The “Emotion Freeze” game, which helps students understand that everyone can regulate their own emotions.
  • Naming and identifying emotions through colors.
  • Practicing the skill of appropriate emotional regulation: calm breathing exercises.

Through the workshop, Vinsers learned that all emotions are valuable, and together we can learn how to express emotions appropriately to create a positive and safe classroom environment for everyone.

Workshop: The Confidence Backpack – For 6th Graders and New Secondary Students

During the 40-minute workshop, the school psychologist and Vinsers explored the “interesting compartments of the backpack”:

  • Check-in and share feelings of being new to school during the first few weeks.
  • Discover tips for adapting to changes and creatively note-taking challenges.
  • Listen to two 7th-grade Vinsers share their experiences with the School Psychology Well-being Program at Vinschool Thang Long.

The workshop helped students understand that feelings of uncertainty when starting something new are completely normal and happen to everyone. Initial challenges can be overcome by applying a growth mindset to problem-solving: sharing with friends and teachers, learning new study methods, or changing old habits that no longer serve us well.

The School Psychology Well-being Program will continue to be held monthly, tailored to the needs and age groups of Vinschool Thang Long students. The School Psychology Department is always ready to receive support requests from students, teachers, and parents at any time during the school year.
