At Vinschool, context-based learning has proven to be an ideal and highly effective approach for teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), particularly for preschool-aged children. This method helps children absorb and remember the language naturally while keeping them actively engaged. Coupled with integrated learning, it also supports the development of important social and emotional skills during English lessons. Let’s take a closer look at how our youngest Vinsers are learning polite phrases and basic table manners through the “Healthy Snack Time”.

During this session, children are introduced to simple expressions such as Hello,” “Please,” and “Thank you” within the context of real-life scenarios. This approach not only familiarizes them with the sounds and pronunciation of English but also encourages them to quickly grasp and apply the language in meaningful, everyday situations.

Building language skills through real-world contexts

Context-based teaching enables children to better understand how language is used in everyday life. Rather than simply memorizing vocabulary, Vinschool teachers incorporate new words into specific activities like preparing snacks or interacting with classmates. This method helps children associate words with actions, leading to more natural and lasting language retention.

The lesson starts with the children cheerfully practicing how to say “Hello,” setting a positive tone for the session.
Each child responds with “Hello” when called by name, listening to others and patiently waiting for their turn.

While learning a new language might feel unfamiliar at first, the children are guided through structured activities that create a welcoming and supportive environment, encouraging them to participate confidently without feeling pressured.

Role-playing games make the learning experience engaging and relatable for young learners.
Children learn how to say “Please” when making a request and “Thank you” when receiving something, naturally incorporating these new words into their everyday speech.

English lessons at Vinschool go beyond language acquisition – they help children build communication, emotional, and social skills. Through thoughtfully designed activities, children learn the importance of polite expressions like “Hello,” “Please,” and “Thank you,” and begin to understand the importance and value of politeness in everyday interactions.

As part of the lesson, the children participate in snack preparation, using “Please” and “Thank you” as they ask for or receive food. This real-world practice reinforces polite language and helps establish respectful communication habits from a young age.

Practicing table etiquette

In addition to mastering new phrases like “Hello,” “Please,” and “Thank you,” children also develop essential table manners. They learn to wait their turn, share food politely, sit properly at the table, and use utensils correctly. During snack time, children practice saying “Please” and “Thank you” when asking for or receiving food, as well as wiping their hands and mouths after eating. These lessons not only enhance their language development but also encourage confidence, independence, and effective social interaction.

Integrating multiple skills in one lesson

At Vinschool, lessons are designed to go beyond simple vocabulary acquisition. They nurture a child’s social and fine motor skills, and teamwork. For example, during snack time, children are encouraged to practice independence by serving themselves, whether it’s spreading butter on bread or peeling a banana, building their sense of self-reliance. At the same time, learning to use polite language in everyday interactions reinforces good communication habits and instills proper manners from a young age.

Why is learning at school different from learning at home?

While young children may already be familiar with basic phrases like “Hello” and “Thank you” from daily family interactions, Vinschool introduces a more structured approach to language learning. Lessons are thoughtfully organized to engage children and help them absorb new language naturally, within meaningful contexts. Additionally, group activities at school encourage children to use language not just for communication, but to express emotions, show respect, and apply their learning in real-world situations.

Even for children as young as two, a well-structured lesson can introduce foundational English words and their practical uses. This approach allows children to engage joyfully with a new language, while simultaneously developing their social and fine motor skills, creating a solid foundation for future language development.
