Teaching Phonics for children with Fun and Engaging Play activities

Thursday, 12/09/2024, 22:09 (GMT)

This week, our Bambi Vinsers had an interesting experience when exploring the sounds in Phonics with the foreign English teacher. Chridren got to play different musical instruments and develop their awareness of sounds and rhythms.

Children transformed into tiny musicians, exploring the sounds our bodies can make through the following learning activities:

My Noisy Feet: This is an outdoor activity. Teachers give the children time to independently explore the sounds they can make and observe how they explore different body percussion sounds and the vocabulary they use.

Children are encouraged to use their feet in different ways to make sounds, such as jumping, stomping, tiptoeing, and continuing their walk through a variety of terrains, including long grass, squelchy mud, and piles of leaves.

With this activity, they not only use feet to make different sounds, but children can also talk about the sound it makes ‘What does it sound like?”

I am a music man: Teacher asks the children to find as many different ways as they can of playing each instrument. Can they scrape it, tap it, shake it, rub it along the carpet, etc.?

Children discuss the names of the instruments and what sounds they make.

Children pass each instrument in turn around the circle and play them loudly/quietly/gently, etc

To experiment with playing different instruments, they like to make quiet and loud noise.

With these activities, children become listening ninjas. They’re all ears to the sounds they make, fine-tuning their moves to match the beat. This sharpens their sense of hearing, helping them tell one sound from another in a whole bunch of rhythms. In addition, children are also trained to communicate confidently and naturally in English with their teachers and friends.
