When Listening Becomes a Bridge”: Practicing Active Listening in the Parenting Journey

Tuesday, 12/05/2026, 15:05 (GMT)

Last Saturday morning (May 9, 2026), the workshop “When Listening Becomes a Bridge” was successfully held, drawing the participation of nearly 50 parents from Vinschool Smart City Kindergarten and Primary School.

The workshop was uniquely designed around the theme “Emotional Flight,” bearing the flight number VSMC-095. Parents embarked on a journey traveling from “Distance” to “Understanding,” kicking off with a “Mood Baggage Declaration” activity and a heartfelt welcome from students—members of the school’s Up2U Psychology Club—who stepped into the role of the “flight crew.” Messages of respect, non-judgmental listening, and emotional composure opened up a gentle yet profound space of connection between parents and children.

The keynote speaker, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Cam Tu, provided various scientific perspectives on Active Listening skills in the parenting journey through her in-depth insights and highly practical interactive exercises.

During the workshop, parents explored:

  • The definition and core role of Active Listening.

  • Common barriers to positive listening and effective solutions to enhance parent-child communication.

  • Step-by-step guidance on practicing Active Listening to help children feel understood, safe, and more willing to open up.

Beyond scientific concepts, the seminar offered a reflective space for parents to re-examine their presence in daily conversations with their children—from observing emotions and practicing non-judgmental listening to responding with empathy rather than rushing to offer advice.

A Grade 1 parent shared: “Through this workshop, I received valuable advice and guidance without feeling judged or evaluated on right or wrong. I will practice active listening, not only with my child but also with those who walk alongside me in raising my child, such as grandparents and teachers.”

Serving as part of the “flight crew,” Vinser Thuy Trang expressed: “I am thrilled to participate in this program and deliver these messages to parents. I hope that after today, everyone will spend more time listening to one another so that families can always stay happy and close.”

The School Board of Directors extends our heartfelt gratitude to Parents for attending and supporting the program. We hope the insights shared will help every family foster deeper understanding and tighter bonds on their parenting journey, and we look forward to welcoming you in our upcoming companion events.
